Vintage Workwear Old Sleeve Protector
This can be classified as a piece of "workwear", a true antique piece. If you look at vintage photos of storekeepers of all sorts, they wore half sleeves as protection over their shirt or blouse sleeves to save them from getting dirty and torn. Sometimes, if it was not a particularly dirty business, one would wear a sleeve protector on the arm they used the most. Some women wore them around the house on cleaning day. This one measures 11 inches long b 5 1/2 inches wide. It's a bit narrow, so i believe this one was for a young girl or child. It is entirely hand sewn of an indigo and white plaid cotton mill work of the era and, unlike the other one i have listed, has elastic at the top to hold it up on the arm.
It is a great piece to add to a work wear collection, as well as a vintage clothing collection. They are almost impossible to come by as they were usually tossed because they were so worn. To find one in a plaid fabric is a very nice find indeed.
