Wonderful smock from early twentieth century , worn on special hiring or market days over their clothes , they have wonderful buttoned pocket flaps and side splits to access clothing pockets. In gorgeous indigo dyed linen this one is in good condition , collar and cuffs not frayed. These now rare items can be worn in lots of ways and traditionally roomy shape gathered at the yoke one size fits all , can be belted if you are small.
This one is button through so can be worn asa coat. These have a great folk history and are getting much harder to find. They seem to mainly come from normandy region but i have had them from further afield in a variety of styles. For me they are right up there at the top of any collection of rural period clothing not least because they are indigo.
